Grand Seiko: "the mainspring unwinds gradually and evenly over a long period of time, and this consistent motion is transmitted through the gear train to drive the hour, minute, and seconds hands with precision."

The train does two things at once: it carries the power along, and it steps the speed down so that one wheel turns once a minute and another once an hour.

On the term "going train". The traditional name for the timekeeping train specifically, as distinct from a striking or chiming train. The only definition located for it sits in a glossary compiled by an auction house, which is a source type this Codex does not cite. It is recorded here as a synonym in trade use, without a definition, pending a citable one.
