C Playground

Run C code using Compiler Explorer (also known as “Godbolt”) — select C from the language dropdown to compile and run with a real GCC or Clang toolchain.

#include <stdio.h>

int main(void) {
    printf("Hello from Compiler Explorer!\n");
    return 0;

Paste the snippet above (or your own C code) and run it there — real compilation, real output.

Why this links out instead of embedding

C compiles directly to native machine code — there's no meaningful way to execute that inside a browser sandbox. Compiler Explorer runs your code against real GCC and Clang toolchains on its own servers (the same tool this project used to compile-audit all of its C content), which is far more trustworthy than any in-browser approximation.

About Compiler Explorer

Compiler Explorer started in 2012 specifically to show how C and C++ constructs translate to assembly, and remains one of the best-known tools for exploring compiled-language behavior. It supports multiple GCC and Clang versions, lets you compare optimization levels side by side, and shows the actual generated assembly alongside your source — useful well beyond just running “Hello, World.”
