Why this links out instead of embedding

Go compiles to a native binary, and there's no practical way to run that inside a browser tab. The official Go Playground solves this properly: it sends your code to go.dev's own servers, compiles it with the real Go toolchain, runs it in a sandbox, and streams the output back — the same infrastructure Go's own site uses for its interactive examples. Linking to it is more honest than approximating Go semantics with a JavaScript reimplementation.

About the Go Playground

The Go Playground is a web service run on go.dev's own servers. It vets, compiles, links, and runs your program inside a sandbox, then returns the output. It supports most of the standard library, lets you pick from the two most recent Go releases plus the development tip, and the Format and Share buttons make it easy to clean up code and send a link to someone else.
